The Astra Safety Committee at the Safety Summit in Boulder, CO.
The mechanical services industry is an inherently dangerous one, making it essential to create the safest places to work in the mechanical trades.
Dan Resendes, Director of Safety at Astra, is leading efforts across the network to create a true culture of safety. With three decades of hands-on experience in the construction field and 15 years of Safety & Health, he has built a career on the principle that no injury is acceptable on his watch.

Creating a Habit of Safety
Through Dan’s leadership and the commitment of local safety leaders, the network has celebrated success with multiple companies for multiple years, with zero recordable injuries. This proves that that an injury-free workplace is an attainable goal for all of our operating companies. Among more than 20 companies, Astra has reported fewer OSHA incidents than is typical for our industry.
Safety Committee and Safety Summit
This group is composed of safety subject matter experts from nearly every operating company. They work to proactively identify safety risks, implement safety protocols, and work through safety incidents. The committee meets in person every year at our Boulder office where they collaboratively respond to safety needs in the most impactful ways possible.
Leadership Training
To better support the safety leaders at each company, Dan Resendes created the Astra Safety Playbook. The Playbook offers tools, templates, and frameworks to empower safety leaders while respecting their deep understanding of their own companies.
Looking Ahead: An Invitation to Future Leaders and Partners
For future employees and companies joining Astra, our desire to create a network-wide safety culture reflects our deeper goal to create the safest places to work in the mechanical services industry.
We accomplish this through:
- Local Ownership: Companies customize and lead their safety journeys
- Shared Strength: A growing network of safety leaders collaborating across companies to share their best practices
Through roundtables, leadership coaching, and practical trainings, we support local autonomy in creating the safest places to work in the mechanical trades.
